There are lots of jobs in search of talent. And there's lots of talent in search of meaningful work.

Now that you have learned all necessary skills for the professional world, it is time to apply them. Be sure to refer back to any level that you may need to brush up on before that crucial job opening pops up!

In order to actually find a job, here are five things to know in order to be successful.

1) Run a social media background check on yourself.  In this day an age, most employers will hire third-party companies to cyber vet (AKA stalk) you. Therefore, you should be aware of what is being portrayed about yourself online. Companies such as Inquirehire and Truthfinder provide these services, and some even do it for free. If you see anything about yourself that puts you in a negative light, be sure to take steps to have it taken down. For more information on this, refer to the Federal Trade Commission or the background check company itself.

2) Advertise yourself. This has become much easier in the 21st century! Cites such as Linkedin will help you build an online reputation--one that you actually want to have!

3) Network and communicate with others. Most of the time, this can be as simple as shaking someone's hand and trading some sort of business card. The more links you have to the professional world, the easier it will be to dive into it. You will find that opportunities sometimes just come up out of nowhere. For example, that one librarian who you keep a good relationship with might contact you later on when her friend has a job opening!

4) Create accounts on job searching websites. Companies such as ZipRecruiter, Monster, and Labor Finders will notify you once any openings are found depending on your field, location, age, and skills. If you are looking for a more local or casual job (perhaps part-time) you can always go with the traditional method of looking in local newspapers or even just going to the store and asking if there are any available positions.

5) Take care of your mental health. While you may be able to find a job in just a couple of weeks of searching, be prepared in case it takes a bit longer (often times it can take months). There are job-hunting clubs out there that you can join if you feel the need to have a companion going through the same desperate struggle as you are.
