Always working to give back to the community around us, as well as in our own school, our FBLA chapter participates in various different projects in which members are encouraged to participate in. These outreach projects range anywhere from helping out at the local Hospital, Seattle Children's, to participating in the March of Dimes event each year. As the holiday season approaches, many of us will be celebrating various holidays. Whether it's presents under the tree or by the menorah, the joy of tearing open the wrapping paper never grows old. But take a minute to think about how your holiday season would be without these presents, without the festive family gatherings, without the guarantee that you'll live past New Years. For hundreds of children at Seattle Children's Hospital, this unfortunate uncertainty is a reality. Children ranging from newborns to teenagers suffer from a multitude of conditions, including leukemia, lymphoma, and neutropenia to name a few. Though the prognosis for a majority of the patients is often optimistic, the truth is that some illnesses are terminal. In an effort to brighten their days, our chapter will be participating in Seattle Children's toy donation program. Profit earned from the Waffle Week/Hot Cocoa fundraiser will be used to purchase toys and stuffed animals for these children.

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. March of Dimes was founded by our 32nd President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, in the fight against polio. After the discovery of the polio vaccine, March of Dimes focused their efforts to improve the health of babies. This program has since been successful with the help and enthusiasm of many grassroots volunteers. This spring, our FBLA chapter will participate in the March for Babies in an effort to raise money for the organization.
